3 / What we learned launching Digital Product Basics

We’re a little over two weeks out from our initial launch of Digital Product Basics, and I thought it be fun to get a little meta to reflect on the lessons learned along the way.

Let’s start with a look at the numbers. We started out with a pretty good bounce from our initial launch announcements, hit a lull, and then started seeing some traction with our distribution.

All told, we’re pretty happy with this performance! And, we’re even more excited to see our distribution start working.

Distribution is probably the biggest thing we (re)learned during this launch. It’s one thing to create a bunch of content – it’s another thing to get that content in front of people who care about it.

In terms of distribution, we’ve been getting more active on socials (Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube) as well as on some niche communities where our audience likes to hang out (Product Hunt, Laravel News, Indie Hackers). It’s been fascinating to see what’s done well (LinkedIn, TikTok, Laravel News) and what hasn’t (the rest 😅). But, it’s still early days, so we’ll see if these trends continue.

Of course, it wasn’t all wins. Our content engine had a bit of a hiccup as we dealt with the launch. We had tried getting a decent backlog in place, but it’s amazing how quickly you run through it.

That said, our content engine is back on track now, we’ve leveled up our processes, and we’re having a blast experimenting with distribution tactics. As the data rolls in, we’re excited to keep y’all in the loop on what works and what doesn’t.

Until next time!
